Around 2013
A desktop full of scripts
Kitty Launcher started as a little script on my Mac’s desktop. I’d double-click it and it opened the apps I needed for a project. It saved me a few minutes every time, so I made another one. Then another, one for every project.

2015
Kitty Launcher 1
Eventually my desktop was more scripts than anything else, so I turned them into a proper app: a cat in the menu bar that opened everything a project needed. I launched Kitty Launcher in 2015, for $5.

The years after
The part nobody tells you about
Sales were small, but I still got the full experience of supporting an app. The few people who bought it ran into real problems, and each one deserved a real answer. That took more time than I expected.

Then
Free
So I made Kitty Launcher free, to let go of the obligation that comes with charging for something. Anyone who wrote in still got help.

2026
The rebuild
I never stopped using Kitty Launcher myself. In 2026 I started rebuilding it from scratch, stopped, started again a few times, and then finally focused. Version 2 ended up doing far more than I planned: it closes projects as well as opening them, keeps track of dev servers and time, and even lets an AI agent set it all up.

Today
Why it’s free
I enjoyed building Kitty Launcher, and I use it every day. Marketing takes a lot of time, and I’d rather spend that time building more cool things. So it’s free, with every feature included.
If you enjoy it, there’s a pay-what-you-want Supporter License. It’s completely optional. And I still help when I can: email [email protected].
